DDE 4.0 control unit

Value: Single ECU (M57, 6-cyl); 6 cylinders split into 2 banks (bank 1 = cyl 1-3, bank 2 = cyl 4-6)

Injector firing bank split (M57)

Value: bank 1 = cyl 1,2,3; bank 2 = cyl 4,5,6. High side (U_MV1/U_MV2) supplies each bank; low side fires each individual injector

Diagnosis interface (DS2)

Value: DS2 bi-directional data line (D_TXD2); 9600 baud; pins 1.03 / 2.06 / 4.32; tester MoDiC; no self-diagnosis of the interface itself

CAN bus (main)

rated resistance: 2.252 kOhm — Source literally prints 2.252 Ohm +/-7.1%, but curve axis (kOhm) and Rserie = 10 kOhm imply 2.252 kOhm is the physically correct reading. Verify. verify=true
NTC curve Rpu (pull-up): 681 Ohm
NTC curve Rdown: 2.15 kOhm
NTC curve Rserie: 10.00 kOhm

Rail pressure sensor

supply voltage (U_KDF): 5 V

Crankshaft position sensor

coil resistance: 1270 Ohm — +/- 10%

Firing / injection order

Value: 1-5-3-6-2-4

Injection phase VE - advance (pilot) injection

Value: Cushions the combustion transient, smooths running; timing relative to HE corrected for coolant + air temperature

Injection phase HE - main injection

Value: Majority of fuel; start of injection calculated relative to TDC; basic value depends on coolant/air temperature, air pressure, speed-dependent boost fluctuation

Injection phase NE - post injection

Value: Supplies diesel-fuel HC to the catalytic converter to reduce NOx; downstream temperature sensor enables cat-efficiency monitoring

Rail breather

Value: Injectors briefly activated to vent the rail on initial start / after repair (via injector 2/2-way valves); happens automatically at start

High-pressure (rail) control range

Value: 200-1350 bar — DRV sampling ratio, open- or closed-loop

Smooth-running (idle) correction

Value: Cylinder-specific correction added to compensate tolerances

Preheat timing

Value: approx 8 s at -20 C, 6 s at -10 C, 5 s at 0 C, 4 s at ~5 C, reaching 0 s at ~6 C s — Read from Fig. 99 curve, not tabulated; treat as approximate. Heater plugs via relay, battery-voltage compensated. verify=true

Post-heat timing

Value: approx 220 s at -20 C, 200 s at 0 C, ~40 s at 20 C, reaching ~0 s at 50 C s — Read from Fig. 100 curve, not tabulated; treat as approximate. From engine start; reduces noise/HC, improves idle. verify=true

Electric fuel pump (EKP) & DRV activation

Value: Power applied to EKP for 60 s when terminal 15 switched on; DRV activated at 1 kHz; above minimum speed 50 rpm both permanently activated until terminal 15 off

Engine-mount switching thresholds

Value: Engine speed 900 rpm (+50 rpm hysteresis); vehicle speed 60 km/h (+5 km/h hysteresis)

EGR control

Value: Setpoint from engine speed, injection qty, air temp, water temp, atmospheric pressure; controlled by PWM of the EPDW; shut down under many fault/operating conditions

Boost-pressure control

Value: VNT via EPDW; driving-style classification selects sporty vs economical maps

A/C compressor cut

Value: Cut for high-torque demand (pull-away/acceleration); no idle-speed increase implemented

Overrun fuel cut-off

Value: Injection ramped to zero when no load request; zero until coasting ceases

Diagnosis fault codes (DDE 4.0 M57)

Value: 0200-0205 = injector cyl 1->6; 1E45 = capacitor voltage 1 (cyl 1,2,3); 1E50 = capacitor voltage 2 (cyl 4,5,6); 1195 = rail pressure control valve; 0190 = rail pressure sensor; 1255 = pre-supply sensor
